24 Weeks!

I can’t believe I’ve made it to the last stretch of my 2nd trimester! While I’m getting closer to my due date, the day when I will actually get to hold baby boy in my arms still feels really far away to me. These past few weeks have been a breeze. I feel guilty even saying that, becuase I know some women have really rough pregnancies! I’m embracing these blissful times as I know they may drift away soon. But so far, pregnancy has been quite amazing!

How far along: 24 weeks

Gender: Boy

Weight gain: 8 pounds. I made a big jump in weight this past month, which is understandable considering the size of my ever-growing belly.

Last Doctor’s check-up: June 20. Baby weighs a little over a pound these days and has a heart rate of 150bpm!

Sleep: Sleep has been getting more and more uncomfortable, and I imagine it is only going to get worse. It may be time to invest in a body pillow or something like that so I can get more comfortable at night!

Best moment this month: My brother got married this month! It was a very exciting day for my family. His wedding was beautiful! The ceremony was out on a golf course and the reception was inside the country club, decorated to perfection. The dinner and dance was lots of fun! I am NOT a dancer, but my husband managed to get me out on the floor for a couple of songs!  I remember a few months ago wondering if I would be showing by the time my brothers wedding came around, and sure enough, there was quite the bump emerging from my dress on that day!

Worst moment this month: Last weekend I was having some abdominal pain during the night which really freaked me out! I was worried sick that something was wrong but everything is just fine and my doctor thinks it is probably just growing pains.

Miss anything: Coca-Cola 🙂 I am trying to avoid caffeine but I sure do miss enjoying a good ice cold Coke. I take sips from my husbands from time to time but I want to drink the whole cup!

Movement: Oh man, so much movement these days! I feel baby moving around throughout the day, and it is one of my favorite things ever. When he really gets going, I have to just stop and stare at my belly. It’s so amazing! It is hard for me to truly grasp the fact that there is a living baby growing inside me, but I am reminded time and time again as he kicks his little feet. 🙂

Cravings: Still no specific cravings, just a lot more hungry than I used to be! However I have been thinking about bomb pops all day so I may have to stop and get some on my way home…

Looking forward to: Now that my due date is getting closer and closer, I’m really looking forward to starting to buy baby things! I have been researching about car seats, strollers, bassinets, etc. and I am excited to make some purchases for baby boy. I am definitely going to take a minimalistic approach and only buy what I need, but it is fun to shop around and it makes things seem even more real!

This is a very surreal period of time in my life, but I am absolutely loving it! I pray everyday for the sweet boy who will make his grand debut this fall. I try to imagine life as a Mom and it just seems so unreal. I’m very excited for what’s to come.

We’ve enjoyed having Ellie and Gabe in our home while their new home is being built. Watching the baby grow and the anticipation of a new grand baby has Kristin and me really excited. Thanks for encapsulating your progress into words, Ellie!
